Abstract

In September 2012, the number of poor people (population with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Indonesia reached 28.59 million people (11.66 percent), decreasing by 0.54 million people (0.30 percent) compared to with poor population in March 2012 which amounted to 29.13 million people (11.96 percent). ; During the period March 2012-September 2012, the number of poor people in urban areas decreased by 0.14 million people (from 10.65 million people in March 2012 to 10.51 million people in September 2012), while in rural areas it decreased 0.40 million people (from 18.48 million people in March 2012 to 18.08 million people in September 2012). ; During the period March 2012-September 2012, the percentage of poor people in urban and rural areas was recorded to have decreased. The percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2012 was 8.78 percent, down to 8.60 percent in September 2012. While the poor population in rural areas decreased from 15.12 percent in March 2012 to 14.70 percent in September 2012.; The role of food commodities towards the poverty line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). Contribution of Food Poverty Line to Poverty Line in September 2012 was recorded at 73.50 percent, this condition is not different from the condition in March 2012 which also amounted to 73.50 percent.
