Abstract
The percentage of poor people in
urban areas in September 2020 was 12.52 percent down to 12.36 percent in March
2021. The same thing happened for the poor in rural areas, in September 2020 it
was 13.25 percent down to 13.12 percent in March 2021.
The March 2021 Poverty Line was
recorded at Rp. 457,455,-/capita/month. The role of the food group on the
Poverty Line is much greater than the role of the non-food group (housing,
clothing, education and health). The contribution of the Food Poverty Line
(GKM) to the March 2021 Poverty Line (GK) was recorded at 74.45 percent,
slightly down when compared to conditions in March and September 2020 which
amounted to 74.49 percent.
Food commodities that have a
major influence on the Poverty Line in urban areas are relatively the same as
those in rural areas, including rice, filtered kretek cigarettes, chicken eggs,
red chilies, chicken meat, instant noodles, sugar, bread, cakes, ground coffee
& instant coffee (sachets), and shallots. Meanwhile, non-food commodities
are housing, gasoline, electricity, education, toiletries and health.
In March 2021, on average, a poor
household in Sumatra Selatan had 4.76 household members. Thus, the size of the
Poverty Line per poor household on average is Rp. 2,177,485.8,-/poor
household/month.
In the period September 2020 –
March 2021, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2)
both decreased.
In the last year or in the period
March 2020 - March 2021 the Gini Ratio of Sumatra Selatan has increased from
0.339 conditions in March 2020 to 0.341 conditions in March 2021 or an increase
of 0.002 points, the same thing in the period September 2020 - March 2021
increased by 0.003 points.
Along with the increasing Gini
Ratio in the last one year, or the period March 2020-March 2021, the
distribution of Sumatra Selatan expenditure according to the World Bank's
measurements in the same period shows a worsening distribution.
In March 2020 the expenditure of
the bottom 40 percent of the population was 19.61 percent, then it fell to
19.22 percent in March 2021 or decreased by 0.39 percentage points.
In urban areas in the March 2020
period, the expenditure group for the bottom 40 percent was 18.03 percent, then
it fell to 17.84 percent in March 2021 or decreased by 0.19 percentage points.
