Abstract

"In March 2012 inflation stood at 0.07 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 131.05.From 66 cities of CPI, 34 cities experienced inflation and 32 cities experienced deflation.The highest inflation occurred in Ambon 1.33 percent with CPI 137 , 57 and the lowest occurred in Malang 0.01 percent with CPI 130.50, while the highest deflation occurred in Jayapura 1.44 percent with CPI 126.38 and the lowest occurred in Pekanbaru 0.03 percent with CPI 130.20. Inflation was attributable to price increases as indicated by the increase in index in the food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco category by 0.46 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.20 percent; clothing group 0.15 percent; health group 0.16 percent; 0.07 percent of the education, recreation and sports groups and the transportation, communication and financial services group 0.10 percent. While the foodstuff category experienced deflation 0.33 percent. The inflation rate for calendar year (January-March) 2012 was 0.88 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2012 to March 2011) was 3.97 percent. The core component in March 2012 experienced inflation of 0.20 percent, core inflation rate of calendar year (January-March) 2012 was 0.97 percent and core factor inflation rate year on year (March 2012 to March 2011) of 4.25 percent "
